Canon EOS 7D

I finally bit the bullet, pulled the trigger, threw it all down, for a Canon 7D. Well worth it let me tell you.

Bought it from the good folks down at Glaziers Camera in Seattle. Coming from a 30D the quality imediately suprised me and it's well noticable. The feature set this thing packs is impressive and among the most notes in the photo community is the ability to shoot high definition video. Many amazing short films have been made using this camera alone and I'll be dipping my foot into video as I use this camera more and more.

Among some more noted features one which I used today is wireless flash triggering, similiar to nikons method. A great addition for someone who owns a collection of Canon speedlites. Micro AF adjustment is something else new to me, something I wish my old 30D had.

Improved weather sealing, and a great body build makes this thing a tank yet again. I can atest to Canon's build quality after having my 30D flung off a car roof and having it still work perfectly fine with a few slight gouges in the body

There are plenty of in depth reviews out there, dpreview.com has a very good one, but my first thoughts on this camera are that it's fantastically awesome. I've already shot more than ibhae in a while and I feel it has jump started my creativity and gotten me out of a rut I've been stuck on for a while.

More to come

Christmas Decorations

Posted by David | Posted on December 15, 2009

I got this email fowarded to me and I just had to share:

"Well, there is good news and bad news about my Christmas decorations this year. The Good news is that I truly out did myself this year. The bad news is that I had to take it down after 2 days.

Three things made me take it down:

First, the cops advised me that it would cause traffic accidents, as several people did almost wrecked when they drove by.

Second, a 55 year old lady grabbed the 75 pound ladder & almost killed herself putting it against my house, then didn't realize it was fake until she climbed to the top… she was not happy. She was just one of many people who attempted to do that.

Third, my yard just couldn't take it. I have more than a few tire tracks where people literally drove up into my yard.

Well, it was fun while it lasted."

Guest DA Interview: Roberto Blake

I had the chance to interview OutlawRave from DeviantArt.com A very intriguing graphic designer from the United States. Click on to read the interview and see more of his work.

GDPhoto: Introduce Yourself

Roberto Blake: My name is Roberto Blake, I'm a graphic designer and digital artist. I've been drawing as long as I can remember, and have been taking pictures since I was a kid, so its only natural that I found my way to Photoshop.

GDPhoto:: What would you describe your "style" as?

Roberto Blake: Honestly, I haven't fond my "style" yet. Other people have tried to put me in a box, and then I do a completely different project just to contradict them, often times I try do things that I either think that I can't do well, or that other people challenge or inspire me to do.

GDPhoto: What got you started?

Roberto Blake: I've always been a creative. I was drawing before I could walk, writing before other kids could read, and I put together a 16 page comic book by the time was 6.

GDPhoto: What inspires you?

Roberto Blake:I try to find inspiration in everything around me, but I will say that I draw inspiration from stories I've read as well as stories I've yet to write! I also draw inspiration from nature and music.

GDPhoto: Do you work as a professional graphic designer or do you pursue the art as a hobby?

Roberto Blake: Professionally, I actually worked at an IT firm for almost 3 years doing graphic and web design work, ads, GUI, and things like that. I began to miss having the time to do actual artwork and work on different types of projects. I went back to freelancing to become a better designer, a better artist, and an all around happy person. For me it was the right choice.

GDPhoto: What plans do you have for your future?

Roberto Blake: I plan to continue to work in the field. Ultimately I would love to get involved in a project that enables young people to purse digital arts and multimedia very early in life.

In terms of personal projects I plan to develop a graphic novel around m own original characters next year, as well as a fantasy project that will involve an actual novel as well as collection of supporting artwork.

GDPhoto: Where can we see more of your work?
